Airport pick-up by our favorite drivers can be arranged with advanced notice. Taxis are readily available at the Puerto Vallarta airport and rates are approximately $700–1,000 MX$ ($50-80 USD). If you want more freedom to explore the surrounding towns, you may want to consider renting a car. Most major car rental companies are located at or near the Puerto Vallarta airport, but it’s best to make reservations in advance.

The Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) is located 40 km (25 miles) south of San Pancho and Hotel Cielo Rojo. The drive along the coast will take about 45 minutes. After leaving the airport property, you’ll need to make a right turn, BUT you MUST get into the left-hand lane immediately in order to safely do a U-Turn and go north on Hwy. 200 (towards Tepic). After driving approximately 40 km (25 miles), you will see the San Francisco (San Pancho) sign. The town entrance is on the left. To turn left and enter the town, you’ll need to pull off into the right shoulder and wait until both lanes of traffic are clear before turning left. Driving in Mexico is not for the meek and you will witness hair-raising stupidities on a daily basis. Pedestrians never get the right of way, many drivers pass on blind curves for no good reason, and most roads do not have a shoulder. In Mexico there is a profoundly dangerous habit of using a blinking left turn signal on the highway to signify “it’s okay to pass”, yet it's often done on curves or a double yellow line. Don't do it, just be patient. You will get where you are going more safely if you do not drive like the locals. It’s generally best to let a good local taxi driver do the driving.

Hotel Cielo Rojo is located at Calle Asia #6. Follow the red signs on the street corners.
